A special meeting of the Albert Lea City Council was called to order at 7:00 p.m. in the City Center Council Chambers by Mayor Marvin Wangen.

ROLL CALL

Present were Councilors David McPherson, Donald Mathison, Mary Kron, Al Brooks and Mayor Marvin Wangen. Also present were City Manager Paul Sparks and Council Secretary Sandi Behrens.

2001 PROPOSED BUDGET AND TAX LEVY – PUBLIC HEARING

Mayor Wangen opened a public hearing on the proposed 2001 budget and tax levy. The necessary notice for this hearing was published on November 26, 2000.

City Manager Sparks explained that this hearing is held to accept public input regarding the City’s proposed budget and tax levy for 2001 and is commonly called the Truth-In-Taxation initial hearing.

Mr. Sparks informed the Council that the proposed 2001 budget is $15,874,935 or a three percent increase over 2000. The proposed tax levy is $2,085,000 or a five percent increase over 2000. The focus for the 2001 budget will be for repair and replacement of infrastructure.

There was no public input. With no one appearing to be heard, Mayor Wangen closed the public hearing.

Mr. Sparks informed the Council that as a result of the completion of the hearing and due to the fact that no comments appear to be forthcoming that the Council will not need to conduct a continuation hearing. He reminded the Council that the budget and tax levy would need to be considered and voted on at a hearing subsequent on December 11, 2000.

ADJOURNMENT – 7:25 P.M.

Councilor Kron moved, Councilor Mathison seconded, that the hearing subsequent for the 2001 budget and tax levy be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2000 and with no further business coming before the Council, the special meeting be adjourned. On roll call vote, all Councilors voted in favor of said motion. Mayor Wangen declared the motion carried, the hearing subsequent called for December 11, 2000 in the City Center Council Chambers and the meeting adjourned.
