The Fire Department also responds outside of it's normal jurisdiction under a mutual aid agreement with the volunteer departments in Freeborn County, Austin Fire Department, and Naeve Ambulance. The agreement with the ambulance is for EMS calls and for assistance using the "Jaws of Life".

Within the city limits are one airport, one hospital, two clinics, four nursing homes, one community college, four elementary schools, one middle school, one junior high school, and one senior high school. Also included is an uptown district of older buildings, two shopping malls, and numerous industrial and manufacturing businesses.

Full-time Staff -- All full-time firefighters are certified First Responders. They are also certified in varying degrees of firefighting.

Part-time Staff -- They are paid a monthly salary for responding to a monthly training session (three hours), and a Spring and Fall training session (six hours each) for a total of forty eight hours. They are also paid an hourly rate for responding to calls. A pension benefit is also given once a year to part-time firefighters based on longevity.
