A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A NAME CHANGE
OF THE ALBERT LEA CIVIC THEATRE TO
“THE MARION ROSS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER”

            WHEREAS, The City of Albert Lea along with several other community organizations are recommending a name change of the Albert Lea Civic Theatre; and

            WHEREAS, Ms. Ross is a native of Albert Lea, attending our school system and representative of the arts in Albert Lea, and

            WHEREAS, Ms. Ross has expressed her appreciation of the beauty of the community, its historic significance, and continues regular visits, and

            WHEREAS, Ms. Ross is well known for her work in theater and continues to work on the stage, film and television, and

WHEREAS, Ms Ross has given her approval of use her name and image, and

            WHEREAS, the name change would give the building a stronger regional impact, its own image and would be the first step in making the civic theatre an anchor in the redevelopment of downtown Albert Lea; and

            WHEREAS, a recommendation has been made to rename this building, “The Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, now, therefore

THE CITY OF ALBERT LEA RESOLVES:

            Sec. 1.       That the Albert Lea Civic Theater be renamed to the “Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.

            Sec. 2.       That reading of this resolution is waived by Council consent.

            Sec  3.       That publication of this resolution shall be dispensed with under provisions of Section 3.08 of the Charter of the City of Albert Lea.

That the motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilor   , and upon a vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Councilors      .
